Imagineering a New Land For Disneyland
It's time for a new GATE project and it's a big one! All of your work will be kept in your GATE notebook at school. Although this is not a project to do at home, I encourage you to share what you are doing with your family and friends. As you complete different parts of your project, you can take pictures and post them on the class website. Here are the details....
You and a partner have been asked to create a new land in Disneyland. The new land needs to be a tribute to Walt Disney and Disneyland that features old Disney ideas in new ways.

Imagineering a New Land for Disneyland is for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Gifted and Talented students at Thiriot Elementary. You will research rides and attractions at Disneyland. Then, in teams of two, you will design new lands for Disneyland. You and your partner will draw a map of your new land that includes these things:

  • two new rides that incorporate something from retired rides that are no longer operating
  • an attraction that is a tribute to Walt Disney or Disneyland
  • a restaurant with five yummy new menu items
  • two stores that sell new merchandise
  • two food carts - one for food and one for drinks
  • outfits (costumes) for the employees (cast members) to wear at all the places listed above
Thanks to a generous $5,000 CenturyLink grant we were chosen for in May, we have 20 new Chromebooks and wireless mice to use for this project, Grant money was used to purchase a wi-fi enabled digital camera so we can take pictures of your projects and easily upload them to our website. We also have a new color printer and ink!

I think it's time for this project to get started. Are you excited? I am! Be a good teammate. Do your best work. Have fun with the project!
